About Pat's District

Live Music Scene and Event Listings

Pat's District's function is to provide a content-rich, comprehensive set of live music and event listings for cities and geographic areas with strong live music presences throughout the United States .. and beyond! To our knowledge, no other site out there is anywhere near as comprehensive as the Pat's District listings, and we are constantly striving to make the listings even more complete.

Pat's District differentiates itself from most other "consolidated" listings sites (and there are many of them out there!) which require information to be submitted to the listings sites in a special format. And that's precisely why those sites often have inaccurate data and don't have comprehensive content for the locations they "claim" to support. Artists, venues and promoters simply don't have the time to update all of those sites all of the time - its just too much work for them, and keeping people on staff to do such things from either the listings-site's end or the artist or venue's end simply doesn't scale. Pat's District takes a completely different approach to the listings problem: we proactively gather the data instead of expecting to have it handed to us.

There's a reason no one else is doing this to our level yet. And that is because it isn't easy. In fact, it is downright hard. Our listings content is typically arranged geographically by city. All listings consist of simple text that anyone can look at and read quickly, with a minimal amount of scrolling. Links to artists and venues are kept simple and do not interfere with your ability to read the information. One of our initial goals was to provide the best, most comprehensive and efficient set of live music and event listings possible with a minimum of bandwidth required. We think we have met and far exceeded that goal.

Pat's District recently added a comprehensive set of mobile-device-friendly listings for all of our supported cities and geographic areas. The mobile version of the site is reachable at mobile.patsdistrict.com from your cell phone's web browser. The mobile site lists information for the current calendar date, to aid users who are out on the town and may be looking for a nearby gig. The mobile pages are truly mobile-friendly, using a minmium of bandwidth. And when we say a minimum of bandwidth, we mean a minimum of bandwidth. We have chosen not to monetize the mobile version of our website with advertisements or gory graphics, because we think that's unfair to mobile users who often have to pay for bandwidth data services on their cell phones. By keeping our page 'clean' of all the excess garbage, any extra rates that you may be charged from your cell carrier should be kept to a minimum.

The Pat's District live music, concert, and event listings are typically updated daily. Our listings are concise and give you the information you need: who is playing where and when, and further details such as cost and show times, when and where available. With an ever-growing database of live music venues and artists, the task of finding out who is playing where and when is greatly simplified. Furthermore, where available, the user can link to external venue and artist websites, to learn more about the venue or artist. Unlike many sites that try to "hide" that information from you or don't publish it at all in order to to keep you on their own site, we don't care. In fact, we encourage you to check out the venue and artist sites associated with a show you might be interested in, so that you can learn all you need to know about that show ahead of time.

Pat's District does not currently sell tickets to any listed shows. And if we do ever sell tickets for shows, it will solely be at the request of venues appearing on our pages. This is because at Pat's District we respect the venues - and their right to sell tickets for their own shows. It kills us that so many sites out there try to get you to buy tickets through them, which ends up costing the music fan (that would be you) more money in the longrun, and the extra money is usually money that the venue and/or artist never see. That's not cool, and we will have no part of it. If you are interested in advance tickets for a particular show, we strongly encourage you to click on the venue's link to see if they are available, and follow the instructions on the venue's site. We at Pat's District believe in supporting the venues and the artists and their choices of ticket brokers, not the unofficial ticket brokers with their outlandish "service fees", and we know that you feel the same way!

We currently support the top 25 US cities by population (source: Wikipedia; 2006-07-01 census numbers), 41 US cities in total, 1 international city, and 5 specialty geographic areas. We expect to continue to add support for cities of all sizes throughout the US (and the world!) as the user community grows and requests support for other areas.
